Damage History

• Takeoff Accident – 1972
  • According to the NTSB accident report, N1636A sustained damage after colliding with trees during initial climb following takeoff. Available 337 includes the subsequent fuselage repair, including fabric removal, frame and tubing straightening as needed, replacement top-deck / superstructure components, sleeve splices, new wood stringers and fuselage recover with Grade A cotton fabric and butyrate dope. The repair was approved for return to service December 1972.
• Stall / Spin Accident – 1976
  • According to the NTSB accident report, N1636A entered a stall/spin during climb after takeoff. The NTSB record lists the aircraft damage as destroyed, with one fatal injury. No supporting 337s or logbook entries documenting the 1976 post-accident airframe repairs have been located in the available records.
